Default Make Your Own Pet Food

When it comes to feeding your pet, there are now many sustainably produced, organically prepared foods on the shelves. These natural pet foods are far superior to most commercial brands, which are often made with poor quality ingredients, animal by-products, artificial colors, and preservatives. While you can buy healthy food for your pet, the best way to know exactly what goes into your pet's food is to make it yourself.

Do you make your own pet food or have your own pet recipes? What ingredients do you use to provide optimal health for your pet?

What is the best way to get started? I would love to try this myself. I make all of my son's food myself. I like to know what is going in his mouth.

I do not make my own pet food. My cat is really fussy and only likes one brand and one particular kind. We buy him purina and as he's prone to urinary tract infections, we buy him urinary care. I've tried him on other brands and other flavors but he won't eat them. I've also tried giving him certain scraps from the table but he won't eat them.

My dog...she would try to eat about anything but I never thought about making her her own food. I would love to see some recipes for this as well and if its healthier for her and costs less or even just a little more, it would be worth it.

I usually make chicken once a week and mix that in but that is about as much as I do. I wouldn't mind doing more though. I just don't want to get carried away and do something I shouldn't have.

Thank You. That is very useful. This must be better than canned or bagged food. I bet this makes the dog's coats much prettier too!

I feed my dogs table scraps as well as dog food. They love it, and it's a way of ensuring that they get the nutritional benefits that we get from 'people food'. ha
