This is a home remedy for earache due to 'swimmer's ear'. My doctor told me to do this everyday for a week until the earache goes away and then every time the kids get out of the pool after swimming.
Mix one part vinegar to one part alcohol. Use a plunger (the kind that is used for removing mucus from babies' noses) to wash out the ears. Make sure to point the tip of the plunger up toward the top of the ear canal instead of straight into the ear.
Thanks for the tip. Blue Eyes just went to the doctor last Friday with a bad ear infection. The doctor also told us that using hydrogen peroxide would dry the water from the ear and keep from having swimmer's ear. We also learned that when the ear gets stopped up with wax, use sweet oil in the ear a couple times of day for several days to soften the ear wax so that it can more easily come out of the ear canal.
Our doctor told me yesterday not to use hydrogen peroxide because, after all the bubbles, it only adds water to the ear which we are trying to avoid. Maybe he gave me that advice because the kids' earaches are probably water-related from the pool. At any rate, they don't like getting their ears flushed out. He mentioned the sweet oil to help remove ear wax. He said that olive oil could be used for that too.
